Diversity and Grass Substitutes

Although nothing is truly compared to grass but still there are substitutes available for grass.  These grass substitute may be different depending on your location as certain grasses thrive under certain condition.

Few examples of diversity and grass substitutes are as follows:

  1. Ornamental grasses. These grasses are drought resistant, require low maintenance, and thrive in almost any soil condition even without any fertilizer. They are also naturally disease resistant which makes them the best low maintenance, beautiful, and natural grasses. However, it may be difficult to walk over your lawn as they are not like traditional grasses and may cause harm.
  2. These are very low maintenance, stay low and hardly grow above 1 inch. As long as you provide a shady place for them, you won’t need to water or mow your lawn. The problem does arise when your lawn is situated in direct sunlight as these grasses don’t do so well in direct sunlight and rather, they are great options for areas that are cool with little sunlight
  3. These grasses are a natural soil fertilizer which helps make your lawn greener and healthier if your lawn soil is below average. They also require low maintenance, little water, and mowing that can be done whenever you may feel it is necessary. The problem is that it is normally ideal for large lawns and for lawns that have below average soil due to its fast-spreading ability.
  4. Sweet Woodruff. These grasses are used as air fresheners to give a pleasant smell to your lawn. They also require very little maintenance, little watering, and no mowing is required. They also look quite visually appealing. However, they are not the biggest fan of sunlight and would rather prefer shady areas.

Although diversity and grass substitutes are there for pickup. But still if weather conditions and environment permits, it is way better to use grass.
