1. Pygmy Jerboa
They are one of the smallest rodents in the world. Some enthusiast love to keep Pygmy Jerboa as pet. These little kangaroos like creatures are found in sand dunes, plains in deserts in Pakistan and they may also be found in Afghanistan. I chose this animal in my list, since it’s probably the smallest rodent in the world and that it has kangaroo like features.
These are sold as exotic animals or pet but still considered dangerous for humans. As they carry dangerous viruses and diseases. All things apart, these are the cutest tiny rodent exists in the world.
2. Axolotl
In my list of strangest pets, Axolotls are placed as number two. These are critically endangered because of that most people are not keeping them as pets but sometimes people have them as pets. They can regenerate limbs and can be different colors like pink, brown and yellow etc. They are native to lake Xochimilco, Mexico City. As water pollution is increasing, their habitats are getting destroyed and they have no areas to reproduce.
The reason I chose this animal because it looks like something that doesn’t belong in this planet like an alien.
3. Sandfish Skink
Sandfish skinks are known for its ability to move quickly beneath sand like a fish swimming in the water. They are easy to keep reptiles for beginners as they don’t require much care, their diet is based on insects and are found in the Arabian Peninsula and Sahara Desert.

4. Boa constrictor
These snakes are large, non-venomous ones that are found in most of South America. They eat rodents, bats, reptiles and etc. They start hunting bigger prey once they grow much bigger.
The reason I chose this animal is because of its large size and its relation to Titanoboa the ancient giant snake. It is better to keep a plastic one then the real snake.
5. Muntjac Deer
These Deer are native to Asia but were introduced to United Kingdom. They are small deer with fangs and tusks on their heads, their diet consists of flowers, ivy, seeds and etc. They can be kept in houses if well trained.
I chose this animal since it has fangs and tusks on its head. Deer is a loveable and adorable animal but Muntjac Deer is famous for its fangs. They are pride of the wildlife but still some people keep them as pet and domesticated animals.
6. Bengal cat
This cat specie is a domesticated cat breed which has been breed by the Egyptian Mau and Asian Leopard cat. These are a very expensive cat breed. They have rosettes pattern on their fur which makes them have beautiful furs.

The Tibetan Mastiff is the world’s most expensive dog breed, they are a very strong breed used as a guard dog for families and farms. Their fur is double coated with the colors of tan, black as common colors and more different colors. They are native to Tibet and other Asian countries.

Long-tailed Chinchilla is the specie which is widely adapted as pet. As they require more attention as being social animal. As well as more care and exercise.
Final thoughts – Top 10 Strangest Pets to Keep
Although above listed exotic pets are either endangered or dangerous for human. Therefore, it is better to be safe than sorry so you may keep fishes, cats or dogs as pet.
All those listed above top 10 strangest pets to keep may require more care, energy and these may be expensive to keep and maintain. My view is that wild animals are beauty of the nature in wild. Therefore, these should not be kept as pet or domesticated. If people keep on having these animals as pets, their survival in wild would be difficult. These animals will become money stream for poachers and fun for some.
You may have to consider local laws and regulations on pets before thinking of keeping an exotic animal as pet. Likewise, in USA, Pigmy Jerboa is banned and lots of other countries it is considered danger as it may spread diseases.
